Hey Loves!
Alright here's my personal round-up of my newest jewelry items that I posted to my Instagram account (@misshoneylavender) which if you haven't started following me yet, you're missing out BIG TIME. This collection is handmade and handcrafted by yours truly for what has been the restart of my jewelry business.
The Background Story:
If you've been here for many years then this is going to be old news for you however if your new here welcome! Jewelry making has been a long time hobby of mine (for years actually) and with each place in my life that I've lived I've been creating these treasured pieces. When I was back in college I was in my early 20's and living in San Francisco and always struggling to make ends meet to get ahead. To supplement my income slightly and as a fun hobby I took metalsmithing classes (at my local community college PCC) and picked up jewelry making. At first, I was gifted a bunch of old jewelry I inherited from my relatives on my mother's side, I liked all the vintage trinkets I had in my newfound possession. I noticed a lot of items were either broken, missing parts but were still really unique and beautiful so I began reworking the jewelry items into something new.
Miss Honey Lavender Jewelry Came To Life!!!!
After I began remaking the old broken jewelry into one of a kind new pieces of art I LOVED wearing around town people begun to take notice. Many of my friends and family were telling me I should make jewelry and sell it, so I did. I had friends ask for custom items as well as people were giving me their old junk jewelry in hopes I could reimage it into something wearable and new. With this concept, I began to create collections that I went around to little boutique stores in San Francisco in hopes to sell these ones of a kind special jewelry pieces for consignment. I did this and my first customer was a shop owner and vintage lady, Sasha, from Shop Belljar and I was delighted, she mentored me and encouraged me to keep creating which was super exciting at the time. I then went to another local boutique called The Stone Pony another vintage shop in the Mission district and started consignment there as well. The entrepreneurial spirit in me grew so I went on to do a few POP-UPs at my friend's loft Bruch parties which were a success as well. I also participated in the Hayes Valley Sidewalk Flea Market as well.
Building Momentum
Fast forward to when I left San Francisco and moved back home after college to sunny San Diego I took a moment of pause before starting up again making my one-off jewelry items because that's life and shit happens. I didn't know what I wanted to do once I moved back home living with my parents while I went to Cosmetology school so I began crafting up a storm, yet again. The editorial proof is in my past jewelry posts showcasing is my jewelry making skills so I began selling again. From consignment at a local vintage store that mostly sold furniture and home goods called The Urban Barn and a few POP-UPS I contributed to with Commue in North Park San Diego I sold my handmade jewelry yet again which was sooo much fun! Upon graduating beauty school and planning on my next move (which was Portland Or.) I took a step back to focus on what lay ahead in my future.
Third Times A Charm...
Man, this phrase has haunted me throughout my life but in a good way, mostly lol. To bring you up to speed this year, I admit that I have been living in Portland Oregon for about 3 going on 4 years I just now have restarted making my creations again. Mostly out of boredom, half out of a means to an end, I've been getting my hands busy with my tools putting together new creations. I've honestly been loving every minute of it and have been surprised by how well the Miss Honey Lavender following has been received with my newfound love for this old hobby of mine. I want to give a BIG THANK YOU to you guys and my followers and friends who have been encouraging me like crazy lately to make more and more and more and so I have. I've been busy and with two successful Flash Jewelry Sales under my belt and my third underway for this Saturday I've been re-inspired to get back in the saddle so to speak.
